Welcome to the HFMA/Nevada Chapter's Website! Our website is an important tool which helps us to make personal and professional connections with our other members, by providing easy access to Local Educational and Social Opportunities, our award-winning Grapevine, membership directory, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
One way to explore your own professional development is to click the Are You Certifiable? link. This innovative and successful program, currently being considered for a Yerger Award for certification, is quickly becoming a model for Internet- and computer-based testing for certification readiness being developed within Region 11. A number of our own members who passed the necessary tests for certification during 2007-08 attributed a significant portion of their success to our efforts during Pete Sabal's year as Chapter President. The personal growth areas and "Pearls of Wisdom" in the Are You Certifiable? site have recently been updated, and represent a work in progress. Use them as your own resources to gain all the professional recognition you rightly deserve.
The 2009-2010 Chapter year will be especially exciting, as our own Mickey Duke assumes the reins as our Region 11 Executive, having been Host Coordinator when HFMA's 2008 Annual National Institute came back to Nevada, after only a 2-year absence. from June 23-27 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Nevada's HFMA Chapter was an active participant in the innagural Nevada Healthcare Forum , in October. I was the Host Coordinator for Nevada Chapter's Lead role during the recent 11th Annual HFMA Region 11 Symposium, held from January 25-28, 2009 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. While attendance was down slightly from 2008, sponsorships were up and vendor booths were sold out again. Keep the 2010 and 2011 dates for Symposium on your calendar: January 24-27, 2010 and January 23-26, 2011.
Nevada Chapter's Pete Sabal and Larry Preston FHFMA were the local forces instrumental in a successful innaugural Nevada Health Care Forum (representing not only HFMA, but also local chapters of ACHE, HIMSS and MGMA), held this past November 2008. This year's Nevada Health Care Forum is being held on October 20, 2009 at Las Vegas' Sierra Health Services RSVP and featuring keynotes Dave Berns (host of Nevada's KNPR radio), Yehuda Dror of hospital accrediting agency DNV (employing ISO 9001 & CMS Conditions of Participation), Deborah Bowen FACHE CAE, and David Roberts FHIMSS MPA.
Cathy Jacobson FHFMA, HFMA's 2009-2010 National Chairman, has introduced her theme of Making it Count. suggesting that the best way to make this coming year count is by being an active participant in one's own Chapter. Our Nevada Chapter welcomes your active participation, as there are many ways for you to do so while networking. We are always looking for volunteers for exciting positions in various chapter administration areas, as well as more casual networking opportunities meeting with your peers in revenue cycle, managed care, legislative & advocacy, strategic & financial planning, compliance, financial mgm't & reimbursement, and social & publicity. All such chapter participation earns points in HFMA's "frequent flyer" program known as Founder's Points. You need only 25 such points to receive HFMA's first award level, the Follmer Bronxe. In fact, other opportunities for participation which earn even greater Founder's Points are available for active volunteers at the Regional and National levels.
