The 2012-2013 Year was a banner year for HFMA Nevada. With a great deal success comes a great deal of thanks for many members of our chapters. I would first like to give special thanks and recognition to the officers, board members, and committee chairs and members that put in so many volunteer hours to make our chapter such as success. Without their dedication and drive we wouldn’t be as successful as we are, much less be in existence.
One of the measures of our success comes in the physical form of awards and recognitions from HFMA National. Each year the national board of directors recognizes and honors each chapter at the Annual President’s Banquet held during the Annual National Institute. This June I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the banquet in Orlando, FL and accept the awards given to the Nevada Chapter on your behalf. It is important to note that while we don’t do what we do with the goal of collecting trophies and awards, they do represent an outward symbolism of the efforts we all put in.
This year we received both individual chapter Awards of Excellence and Yerger Awards, as well as multi-chapter Yerger Awards.
We were awarded the following chapter Awards of Excellence: Bronze Award of Excellence for Certification, Gold Award of Excellence for Membership Growth and Retention, Gold Award of Excellence for Education, and the Henry Hottum Award for Educational Performance and Improvement. In addition to these Awards for Excellence, we also received the following Helen M. Yerger Awards for: Outstanding Performance in Education (Nevada Healthcare Forum), Outstanding Performance in Improvement (Increase in Member Satisfaction), Multi-Chapter Outstanding Performance in Education (Region 11 Symposium), Outstanding Performance in Education (Certification Training), Outstanding Performance in Member Recruitment and Retention. Again these are awards that were earned by the dedication and support of all of our members. You should all be very proud.
The 2013-2014 year has already begun well and should continue on with our successes and momentum. As always we will be bringing you educational opportunities second to none. This year’s Nevada Healthcare Forum will be as significant and full of needed education and knowledge as all its predecessors. We will once again be conducting a multi-chapter certification education series in the fall. The Board of Director’s have again voted and approved the reimbursement of the cost of the certification for any members that attend all of the series events and then take, and pass, the test prior to April 30, 2014. Please don’t miss your opportunity to take advantage of this free training and potentially free certification.
In December we will have our 3rd Annual Holiday Mixer and Toy Drive, and in May once again we will hold our annual Golf Tournament and Charity Fund Raiser. In between these larger events are many, many other educational events such as our “Coffee with the CEO”, webinars, and the ever popular social networking events.
If you have the desire to join your chapter leadership as a committee member or future board member or officer, please don’t hesitate to contact us now. We always need and welcome new faces, fresh ideas and perspectives, and hardworking dedicated leaders in our healthcare community. The chapter is currently looking for a motivated individual to take over the role of Web Master.
Once again, thank you for a great year and your chapter officers, board, and I look forward to seeing you all get more involved in this year’s chapter events and socials.
